Meet Captain Bob Tatarsky

Meet Captain Bob Tatarsky and Salmon Catcher Fishing Charters

Captain Bob Tatarsky’s connection to the water began in childhood, evolving from a lifelong passion into a career dedicated to sharing the fishery of Lake Ontario with others. Since arriving in the region in 1980, he has spent decades navigating the local lakes, developing a deep, intuitive understanding of the specific patterns and behaviors of the species that call these waters home. His transition into professional guiding was a natural extension of this dedication, allowing him to turn his extensive personal scouting and time on the lake into a resource for visiting anglers.

Throughout his years on the water, Bob has encountered the diverse and often surprising challenges that make freshwater fishing so compelling. One of his most notable experiences involved a prolonged battle with a 40lb Sturgeon, a testament to the patience and technical skill required when targeting the powerful fish found in the Great Lakes system. This history of hands-on experience ensures that guests are fishing with a guide who remains calm under pressure and understands exactly what it takes to successfully bring a heavy catch to the deck.

For Captain Bob, a day on the lake is about more than just the harvest; it is about providing a reliable and educational environment where guests feel confident in their surroundings. He has spent the last several years focusing on the waters near Port Credit and the Toronto shoreline, staying updated on weather shifts and seasonal migrations to ensure every trip is planned with precision. His goal is to provide a grounded, authentic look at the local fishery, offering expert guidance that helps anglers of all levels sharpen their skills while enjoying the natural beauty of the Ontario coast.

The Salmon Catcher Vessel

The Salmon Catcher operates out of a 19’ Bayliner bowrider, a versatile and stable platform powered by a 130 HP Mercruiser engine. This vessel is designed to navigate the nearshore waters of Port Credit efficiently, reaching speeds of up to 40 knots to get you to the most productive fishing grounds quickly. The boat is equipped with essential modern electronics, including GPS and a high-resolution fishfinder, to track depth transitions and locate active schools of Chinook, Coho, and Trout. With a capacity for up to four guests, the layout provides ample room for trolling and gear storage, ensuring a comfortable workspace. To provide a seamless experience, the boat comes fully stocked with professional-grade rods, reels, and a variety of lures and live bait tailored to the day's conditions.
